Finishes
How the glaze goes on changes the colour and how much stone shows through.
Coloured glaze sprayed straight onto the lava stone, with no base. Deeper colour and more of the stone's grain.
A white base glaze, then the colour sprayed over it. Brighter, cleaner colour.
The white base is brushed on, then the colour sprayed. Darker marks show where the brush missed or left the base thin.
Character
How much of the lava stone's texture breaks through the glaze.
Almost solid glaze with fine grain and a few isolated pores.
Glaze-filled dimples and pale breaks over roughly a tenth of the surface.
Strong lava character: about half the surface breaks to pale, with open pores.
